Irony

It is pretty certain that physics doesn’t have a well-developed sense of irony and so it must be assumed that an, as yet undiscovered, principle of nature lurks nearby.

Years of painful study have not discovered what this is, and in sheer frustration some wayward philosophers have gone so far as to suggest that irony is a reflection of the Universe’s sense of justice.

However, anyone who has ever stubbed their little toe repeatedly on the same item of household furniture will know that the Universe does not have one of those.
